This project is based deep in the Peruvian rainforest, and takes place alongside jungle communities on a tributary of the Amazon River. You will be working in areas that have not been touched by tourism.  You will also have the possibility to go deeply into the Amazon region, a highly exclusive place to have traveled.  At the program, volunteers get to help with turtle conservation, working up close with wildlife in South America.

You should think about doing this volunteer placement if you wish to work on a back-to-basics conservation project. This is a wonderful volunteer experience in one of the best and most inaccessible environments in the world to work and travel.

Volunteer Role

So far our turtle conservation program has achieved the releasing of more than 330,000 baby turtles into their original environment. Volunteers on the program are in for an amazing, exhilarating and very authentic rainforest experience.

What you will do:

  • Patrol river beaches to collect nests and eggs
  • Construct artificial breeding beaches
  • Incubate turtle eggs
  • Collect and record scientific data on egg collection, hatching rates and characteristics of the hatchlings.
  • Mark and liberate the hatchlings back into the wild

What you may see:
Pink river dolphins, tamarin monkeys, macaws, caiman, herons and possibly a giant river otter or even the elusive jaguar..

Project Accommodation

During the volunteer program, you will live alongside four different rainforest communities. Your will stay in shared tents, which will be very basic. Volunteers should be prepared for a very hard-core and intense volunteer experience.
