Borneo Horses and Tribeschildren Volunteer
Volunteers on this program have a real chance to share the culture of a rural Bornean community and help out at the local school. You will also lend a hand training and riding the village horses.
Volunteer RoleThe farm where volunteers stay has been graded as almost one hundred per cent eco-friendly. The farm buildings have been built using only local materials and the food is grown almost entirely organically:
- Horse-riding and the training of horses
- Spending time in the local kindergarten
- Interact with the tribeschildren
- Tree planting
- Learn about tribal traditions
- General farm work.
- You could also find yourself on a lake cruise in one of the nearby National Parks!
*If you enjoy horse-riding, you will love the rides in the jungle. If you are not keen on riding you will be able to help groom the horses.
** Volunteers take part in the regional rainforest regeneration project, planting trees in the surrounding forests to offset carbon emissions.
LocationThe project is based in Sarawak which is situated in the north west of Borneo - an area rarely touched by tourism. Miri is the nearest large city where tourists tend to organize trips to the national parks of Lambir, the Niah Caves and Loagan Bunut.
Accommodation and MealsUp to three volunteers share a bedroom in a comfortable farmhouse fitted with modern flush toilets. Bed linen is provided and rooms are cleaned each day. As with all of our projects - safety is paramount – and in this instance – the farmhouse is guarded at night.
All meals are included.
