Canada Community and Wildlife Volunteers

You have the opportunity on this Canadian voluntary program to work around and in the beautiful and vibrant city of Victoria, located in British Columbia. You can volunteer with various organizations such as cultural or Fine Arts bodies, nature and environmental projects, AIDS/HIV awareness, healthcare and teaching programs.

Volunteer Role

You can choose from numerous projects on this wildlife and community volunteer program. They include:

Option 1: BC Wildlife Rehab
Volunteers will work nurturing small birds and land mammals back to health. Not only will you assist with the care and feeding of animals, your skills are desperately needed in areas such as: office administration, website maintenance, grounds keeping and carpentry.

Option 2: Conservation Canada
Volunteers will be involved in protecting areas of scientific, historical, cultural and scenic value by working with office staff, legal, real estate advisors and field crews. You may also be involved in working in local tearooms and gift shops that raise money for this conservation effort. Alternatively you can get your hands dirty and participate in gardening projects or even volunteer at a compost education centre.

Option 3: Art Volunteer Canada
Working within a gallery you will be involved in greeting visitors, answering questions, helping with coat check, working in gift shops and possibly helping with tours for children.

Working within local studios you will work directly with people using art. You may have the opportunity to direct classes for people with physical and developmental disabilities or senior citizens. Seniors explore whatever type or art they are interested in be it painting, textiles, or sculpture with an appreciation for its benefits to their lives. Volunteers help participants to and from art classes, assist with the classes and socialize during the art session.

Option 4: Therapeutic Riding Centre BC
Volunteers will work providing horseback riding lessons for people with disabilities. These riding lessons are highly sought after for their therapeutic value to each individual. You will assist adults and children to ride each week. Volunteer tasks would include: Assisting riders with balancing and interpreting instructor directions, Leading and exercising horses, Horse grooming, Administration of riding centre, teaching classes, etc.

Option 5: Create your own volunteer project
We can find a project in the general fields below or based on your hobbies, previous skills or employment. This way we can ensure you the perfect volunteer placement for your gap year abroad.

Project Location

You’ll be based in Victoria in British Columbia, the most western province in Canada. It is an extremely beautiful region, where you can enjoy numerous outdoor leisure activities in its very mild climate.

Accommodation & Meals

You have two choices of accommodation during your stay in Victoria. They are:

Staying with a host family - You may be happier staying with a Canadian host family. They will provide you three meals a day, as well as your own private room.

Rental Accommodation – these are usually an arrangement of private annexed rooms, or private apartment within a Canadian family house. Meals are not included in this arrangement.
