China Experience Programme
This four-week program offers you a unique chance to experience various activities throughout China.
The ProgrammeNot only do you get to learn all about the language and culture, you also get to spend time trekking across some extraordinary parts of this exhilarating country as well as living alongside a local community assisting with their daily activities.
Week 1 Is an introduction to China, its customs, culture and its people. You will have a Chinese cooking session and several Chinese language lessons. You will stay for three nights in Beijing, where you have the chance to tour Tianamen Square, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.
Week 2 Dali is full of numerous old and new attractions, ancient buildings and the indigenous Bai people. You can explore the Three Pagodas of Dali, pay a visit to the Nanzhao Grottos and stay at the famous Shaxi village. You will also have a chance to relax with a soothing massage or enjoy a cold beer in a beer garden as well as experiencing the caravan horse tea route!
Week 3 This week gives you a unique chance to work and live with a local community. In the morning you will help local families with farming duties, and in the afternoons you will help to teach English to children at the school.
Week 4 This week you will trek one of Chinas holiest peaks, Jizu Shan (in English, “Chicken foot mountain”). The journey to the top of the mountain takes roughly around four hours. You will then stay at the temple at the top of the mountain, enjoying the spectacular sunrise and scenery. This week of exploring shows you a China that no tourist will see: you will visit Shangquing, the farming village and see the harvest of corn, rice and tobacco in the autumn or bean and wheat in the spring you will also spend time in the village of Wase, based on a lake and Shuangland where your adventure ends.
Programme location
The program starts in Beijing, China’s capital, and then after sightseeing, you can move onto the beautiful Yunnan province in the South. You will be close to Dali and Kunming.
Accommodation and Meals
Beijing You stay here for three nights; the apartments are of a good quality and generally two to four people in every room. The apartment is also in easy reach of most local attractions. Yunnan In Yunnan, the accommodation will vary, and includes hostels, temples, hotels and home stays. All meals and accommodation are included for the duration of the program. Meals consist of traditional Chinese cuisine.
