Coach Football Ecuador
This football volunteer program is a fantastic way to spend your gap year or career break. As with so many other South American countries, football is a passion that has the capacity to bring together people from all different walks of life and give chances to individuals to achieve things they never thought possible. Ecuador's participation at the 2006 World Cup has boosted the popularity of the sport even more, making now an excellent time to experience this program.
The sports program believes that by creating a structured atmosphere for so many children to enjoy, the children won’t get involved in crime and they will have access to educational experiences that will help them in the future.
Our Spanish School (Optional) We recommend that any participants who aren’t confident about their Spanish skills take classes at our Spanish school in central Quito. For further details about the Spanish school see the further information page.
Volunteer ProgrammeThe program involves 4 football schools situated in diverse parts of Quito, with about 120 boys aged from 5 to 18 years old. The school aims to provide young children with a place to go and benefit and have fun from physical activity, combined with focused education and language lessons. Children who attend the football school come from all walks of life, with a number of the children attending from orphanages and local schools.
The children constantly play games and sometimes take part in tournaments on weekends that volunteers attend too. During the summer they also participate in a Football camp that runs in the mornings from 9:30 until 12:30, with volunteers being able to take part if they wish.
As a volunteer football coach you will be required to:
- Assist coaches in football classes - through skill development, coordination skills, game preparation and training drills.
- Help in the organization of training sessions and competitions.
- Referee short games.
- Provide English (and/or German if possible) lessons to the students.
Accommodation and MealsAll your accommodation used during the volunteer and language program is with a local host-family. By staying with a local family, you the chance to not only make local friends, but to also understand the Ecuadorian culture from an exceptional perspective. The families also give you advice, support and a safe place to live in during your program.
The host family provides you with two meals a day, breakfast and dinner. Volunteers need to purchase their own lunch; food is very cheap in Ecuador.
