Gap Year Expedition - Tanzania
Real Gap has developed an three month Expedition that combines Adventure, volunteer work and travel as you travel to trek all over Tanzania taking in historical and cultural sights that made this country so important in world history. You’ll find this gap year experience is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding that Real Gap offer.
You’ll enjoy the rare privilege of living closely alongside the Maasai tribe near Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll be exchanging skills with them, such as teaching them English, whilst learning directly about their lives by being with them. However, you’ll also find yourself seeing Tanzania’s stunning landscape whilst enjoying a safari in the Ruaha game reserve, as well trekking all over the country and making a visit to Zanizibar Island.
If you consider yourself adventurous and want to learn about and experience Africa, then this is gap year program is for you.
You’ll see all of Tanzania and learn about its language, wildlife and nature, and be introduced to the cultures of its tribes. You’ll be immersed in its history, from the horrors of its slave trading to Dr. Livingstone’s attempts to bring medicine and mission.
You’ll be based at the base camp on Mbezi coast. This base is eight miles distance from Dar es Salaam, one of the biggest animal reserves in the world and is located near the Island of Zanzibar.
Once you’ve been introduced to the culture and language, you’ll be trekking and volunteering your way through Tanzania, enjoying safaris and other adventure programs en route.

| Programme Summary: You’ll enjoy a very varied program from visiting Zanzibar Island, seeing the Big Five at Ruaha Game Reserve, learning Kiswahili, and being taught the secrets of Maasai cooking and art.
