This volunteer project focuses on helping local children who have been made orphans because of their parents have died from AIDS. Their families devastated by this dreadful epidemic means that these children are often left on their own to look after their siblings. Because of this they are amongst thousands of African children who require outside aid, either domestically or on an international level. Volunteers are essential for this project continuing and you will playing a very valued role by becoming involved.

Though not officially “adopted,” the orphaned children who are taken on by this project are given support in all areas of their lives: from ensuring that their remaining families remain together and survive, taught ways of earning money and basic employment skills, alongside being educated and offered love amongst over vital resources. By offering your time and abilities, you will help not only these devastated families, but groups of other disadvantaged people such as street children and widows to learn to rebuild their lives and establish ways of supporting themselves.

Volunteer Role

This volunteering work is incredibly rewarding and the aim of the program is to establish sustainable development and projects. Examples of the volunteer work you may be doing includes:
  • Vocational training: You can help the youngsters by teaching them skills such as computer training, maths and English
  • Sexual Health Education: Take part in discussions and forums about western lifestyle, sexual health, AIDS awareness and other such topics
  • Mobile clinic: Attend to the sick, the elderly, orphans and other community members, or if you prefer you can undertake clerical duties relating to their care
  • Food security: You may provide support to impoverished families, demonstrating sustainable agricultural practices and improving food production and diet
  • Relief programme: Involves reaching out to poor families with food rations and clothing
  • Construction: There are all kinds of jobs to do depending on your skills, ranging from carrying building materials to hands-on building work
  • Counselling programme: You can visit people with AIDS, talk with them and offer them care and support.
The minimum age on this project is 21 years old.
