You will directly work with the Tribes of Maasai in Kenya on this voluntary project.  If you want to be immersed in working with wildlife and local communities in Africa, this is a superb project to be involved with. To work with the Maasai Tribe is a privilege rarely experienced by most volunteers, and you will gain an knowledge of the authentic culture of these people not well known by most westerners.

The projecting is divided into two-week blocks that will allow you get involved in two of the Maasai programs:  the choice of working with: Colobus monkeys, elephants and lions. 

You will interacting closely with local communities and teaching them how live peacefully with the nearby elephant herds. You will also learn vital field study methods that are used to help conserve this endangered species.

Volunteer Role

This volunteer Kenya program is located in the Tsavo West National Park region. Your tasks include: following the elephants, tracking, recording, data collection of various details, as well as assisting with Elephant herd counts. As a volunteer, you can also get involved in local community programs such as helping to work in or build medical clinics and schools, amongst other local amenities.

Programme Summary:
You’ll be monitoring the Elephants daily, including tracking, recording, data collection of various details, and herd counts. You’ll also have the privilege of working with the Maasai people, an opportunity few travellers are rarely intimately exposed to.
