New Zealand Hiking Tour - Eastern Epic
This ten-day hiking adventure takes you backpacking in the eastern and northern parts of New Zealand's South Island, and is an excellent trip if you love hiking to mountain summits.
The Eastern Epic Hiking TourAll through this tour, you will be amazed at the beautiful scenery and wildlife. You will have the possibility to watch seals and dolphins, and whales. You can also relax whilst watching the sun-rise over the Pacific Ocean from the summit of Mt Fyffe in the rugged Kaikoura range.
You will be taken on a group hike along a rocky alpine ridge with beautiful views of glacial lakes and then follow a cascading mountain stream in Nelson Lakes National Park.
Explore a strange karst landscape sculptured by glaciers and water, where many scenes from Lord of the Rings were filmed. You can also gaze at a mountainous panorama from the summit of Mt Owen in Kahurangi National Park.
LocationNew Zealand’s South Island. Begin and finish in Christchurch.
Accommodation and MealsYour accommodation will range from camping, hostels and cabins, cribs (summer house), and back-country huts. The accommodation isn’t included in the cost of the programme and the prices vary depending on where you are staying. Generally, if the weather is good, you will be camping which is the cheapest option. If the weather is not so pleasant you may end up staying in cabins, huts or cribs.
Meals are on a food kitty system so each person needs to contribute around $10 per day. Food is brought at local supermarkets and all participants are required to contribute to preparing meals. Meals will vary being barbecues, salads, pasta, rice etc and you will also want to take lots of appropriate hiking food with you such as nuts, chocolate, raisins and biscuits!
