By joining this sports project, you’ll be helping hundreds of orphaned children learn new sports and improve on their existing sports skills. Most of these children have lost their families through AIDS and you’ll be giving them guidance and support as they make their way through school and life.

Zambia’s government, because money and resources are limited, operates a “hot-seat” policy where children have to take turns in going to school. Some schools even have to have three different sessions a day, rotating pupils. This seriously affects the children’s educations. You’ll be involved in creating structured environments where children learn sports. Previously, they would have been left to their own devices.

Volunteer Role

Sports in the children’s lives, had until this project, received little attention, nor had the subject been attributed any importance. There were few, if any teachers dedicated to instructing this subject. In morning sessions at local schools, you’ll be teaching a wide range of sporting activity thereby building these physical activities into children’s daily education programs.

In afternoon periods, you’ll be assisting local orphanages and community programs, instructing these deprived children in daily sport and game activities.  In the past, our volunteers have got their teams into local football leagues competing with other clubs in the area.

Accommodation & Meals

You will be accommodated in a Volunteer house, with other volunteers on your program. This is a large house that has had additional bedrooms made in it. You will have shower facilities along with two bathrooms. It is based in the peaceful suburban area of Livingston. The project is five minutes driving distance from the house. You’ll also be able to relax in the very large garden in your spare time.

You’ll be provided with three meals daily, though sandwiches will be given for a packed lunch during project days.  In the evening you’ll have a cooked dinner, but you have access to the kitchen whenever you want.
