This Real Gap Sports Experience program offers young aspiring players the chance to develop their rugby skills in one of the premier rugby playing countries of the world.  Home of some the most famous rugby teams around the globe, you benefit from having the instruction of professionals who are devoted to the game. The only existing Academy devoted to training ambitious young players and you’ll be able to choose from staying one month to six in order to bring your skills up to top class levels.

As well as playing with of New Zealand’s best young Maori players (30 are accepted into the academy every year), you play along side other international students which will advance your game, and give you knowledge of global practices and standards in this very popular game.  

Rugby Academy Programme

It doesn’t matter what your level is as long as you possess the desired work ethics of ambition, dedication and an openness to the innovative methods that the Academy offers. Former students gone to play for club, regional and international levels after graduating from the Academy. Without question, the Academy will bring your game on to new level.   

The academy's training programme focuses on the following areas:
  • Forward Skills & Back Attack
  • Individual Skills (passing, etc)
  • Tackle Technique & Defence
  • Individual weights Programme
  • Specific Positional Training
  • Rugby Tactics & Psychology
  • Game plan, motivation, focus & visualisation & pre match preparation
  • Fitness (aerobic/anaerobic, speed/strength/fitness testing)

The Program’s structure encourages balanced and rounded training that will equip you to develop your mental, technical and physical aptitudes.

As well as being instructed full-time by professional rugby coaches, a number of guest mentors will come and teach you. These in the past have included former New Zealand Maoris, Super 14 and All Blacks players. These mentors advise you on ball skills and techniques as well finding ways of improving and applying these skills to the game.

Professional Training Information
The focus of the training is twofold - training each player on their responsibilities as part of a team and also teaching each player the finer details of their position. For example:

Accommodation and Meals

You’ll stay with a local family.  This will immerse you totally in a New Zealand experience and culture. Your host local family will give you breakfast and dinner, but you’ll have to buy your own lunch.

Programme Summary:
