Uganda Teaching Project
If you join this project, you’ll be helping to give valuable support to local teachers based at a rural school in southwestern Uganda.
The secondary level school aims to offer a high standard of education for the children from the locality, some of whom are orphaned or disadvantaged. The schools teaches academic and practical subjects with the intention of improving the job prospects of their students, as well as helping to improve their lives.
You’ll be helping with academic subjects such as English, Math, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. However if you have skills in more vocational subjects like pottery, knitting, tailoring, computer skills and joinery and carpentry, they would be gratefully used by the school to give the children other practical qualifications.
The school has a high regard for sports, and you might be required to teach particular sport classes in afternoon sessions. Football, of course, is very popular, and many of the girls play netball.
Project LocationThe project is based in Kyotera, in southwest Uganda
Accommodation & MealsYou’ll be sharing a safe, basic but comfortable house with other volunteers located on the edge of town. It is within easy reach of the center. There are western style toilets, but sometimes during shortages of water, collected water is used and you may have to wash from buckets. At the house, you’ll have a housekeeper, cook and night security man for your safety. Two meals are provided at the house daily, but a pack lunch is required to take to the center.
